Gemotions

He leaned against the weathered porch railing, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and purple. A small sigh escaped David's lips. He wasn't sure what to expect upon returning to this house. He'd avoided coming here for years, avoiding the memories.

But standing there, the weight on his chest seemed to lift, replaced by a quiet contentment. He felt the tension leave his jaw, and the corner of his lips turned upward. The familiar chirping of crickets filled the air. He had a beer in his hand, and the chill of the glass felt nice against his palm.

He turned back inside. He had a lot of work ahead of him, of course. But for now, he felt a sense of acceptance, of being exactly where he needed to be. He was ready to face whatever came.
